KALAKUTA IS A WOMAN
Kalakuta Is A Woman offers a modern vision of what life, intimacy and collective energy might have looked like within Fela Kuti's Kalakuta Republic.
For a long time, the women of Kalakuta were reduced to a secondary image, despite holding a central place within that artistic, political and deeply human ecosystem.
With this project, the intention was to shift the gaze back onto their presence, their collective power and the way they inhabited spaces, bodies and everyday moments.
Each scene is conceived as a feeling rather than a reconstruction, a warmth, a tension, a closeness.
An original concept by Aimie Beyuku & Marianne Costade
